Aquatic Resources Centre

The Aquatic Resources Centre (ARC) provides a world-class teaching and research facility containing 14 aquaria rooms, analytical labs and a dedicated Wolfson Foundation-funded imaging unit.

Bioeconomy Centre

Under the guidance of the Director Professor John Love the BioEconomy Centre works collaboratively with industry to solve problems using biological approaches. The centre’s research employs a multidisciplinary combination of technologies including Synthetic Biology and Biocatalysis to investigate key questions associated with a wide range of industrial challenges.

Bioimaging Centre

The Bioimaging Centre is a research facility within the School of Biosciences that provides state-of-the-art optical, laser and electron microscopes to enable advanced cellular imaging techniques across the breadth of biological research.

The DroneLab conducts customised drone surveys with state-of-the-art image processing for a wide range of environmental and geographical research projects. The lab is led by Dr Karen Anderson and based within the Environment and Sustainability Institute.

The Dynamic Marine Component (DMaC) test facility is a purpose built test rig that aims to replicate the forces and motions experienced by marine components in offshore applications. The test facility is based within the Renewable Energy Research Group of the BetFiery at Penryn Campus, Cornwall.

Offshore Testing

The offshore renewable energy group can support marine operations, mooring applications and reliability assessments for ORE applications through research assessing the ocean environment.

They can also assist you in simulating and analysing the marine load conditions (numerically and physically) and in undertaking in-field measurements to support oceanographic resource, engineering load or environmental impact assessments.

Clinical Research Facility

The NIHR Exeter Clinical Research Facility (NIHR Exeter CRF) improves patient care by increasing understanding of the causes of disease and improving diagnosis and treatment. The facility supports and conducts clinical research studies has highly trained ‘research dedicated’ nurses, scientists, doctors and support staff, plus outstanding research facilities including bespoke wards and consulting rooms, sample handling laboratories and specialist equipment for investigating exercise, physiology and metabolism.

The facility is run in partnership with the Royal Devon and Exeter Trust.

Our clinical trials facilities evaluate current treatments, driving change and improvements in medicine. Our researchers belong to leading research units and institutes based across the University and NHS. Our Clinical Trials Unit (CTU) works in collaboration with researchers and clinicians in the design and delivery of high quality and efficient controlled trials and other well-designed studies, addressing important health questions.

Experienced in working in partnerships with companies, other universities and government agencies, the Centre offers consultancy on all aspects of ALM. It is particularly focussed on solving material issues in ALM, working together with research partners at the boundary edge of current knowledge.

Our fabrication facilities include two clean rooms covering a total of 150 square metres housing lithography, etching, dicing and deposition systems for nanofabrication. VSimulators at Exeter

VSimulators is a joint venture between the BetFiery, and Universities of Bath and Leicester, to develop facilities for multi-disciplinary research in human factors engineering. The VSimulators facility based at Exeter Science Park can recreate any environment either physically or virtually.

The collaboration is supported by an Engineering and Pysical Science Research Council (EPSRC) £4.8 million infrastructure grant.
